Collaboration with IBM and ETH Zurich to Enable Protein Modeling in the CloudThe same video is also available on YouTube or as MP4 version viewable with QuickTime. Using the CloudBroker Platform, researchers at the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology at ETH Zurich have been able to model about 2.3 million three-dimensional structures for 249 proteins of a harmful streptococcus bacterium by means of the Rosetta software. The cloud computing resources were provided by the IBM Cloud, and consisted of up to 1,000 virtual CPUs in parallel. The CloudBroker Platform automatically managed the more than 30,000 individual jobs and almost 1/4 million hours of processing time, bringing down the overall time to results from months to just two weeks. EU Project to Support Scientific Gateways for Various User Communities![]() CloudBroker participates in the "SCIentific gateway Based User Support" (SCI-BUS) project, which is supported by a grant from the European Commission's FP7 Infrastructures programme under grant agreement number RI-283481. SCI-BUS's goal is to enable scientific portals for different user communities. CloudBroker's role in the project is to establish the integration of these gateways to commercial clouds as well as to help finding sustainable business models for operating these infrastructures.
